transmissions

TH200 - Light duty, "metric" 3 speed transmission.

TH250 - Used in small 4 cylinder cars Vega, Sunbird, Monza from 1973 to 1981 and some Nova, Camaro, Chevelle 6 cylinders in 74 & 75. The 4 cylinder models have 4 large cooling holes near the torque converter,  on the larger cars there are no cooling holes.

TH200-R4 - Used in GM rear wheel drive cars behind the 3.8 V6, 305 & 350 Oldsmobile and 301 Pontiac from 81 to 89. This is a 4 speed overdrive unit.

TH350 - Is a Medium duty 3 speed transmission used from 69 to 89. Installed  in Buick, Olds, Pontiac and Chevy cars and Chevy & GMC light trucks. Comfortably capable of handling up to 400 foot pounds of torque.

TH375 - Is actually a TH350. This transmission is the big brother of the TH350 in that though identical in appearance... the 375 was a heavy duty version of the 350. Easily is you don’t check the numbers, you would think your 375 was a TH350. But that isn't a bad thing.

TH400 - The 400 was GM's Heavy-duty 3 speed transmission used from 64 to 90. Its Primary use was on Big Block V8 high torque engines or vehicles equipped with towing packages. Used extensively in Chevy & GM trucks, Caddys BB & full size GM rear wheel drive cars.

TH700-R4 - 4 Speed transmission used in GM cars and light trucks with the 2.8, 3.1, 4.3, V6, Chevrolet built 305, 350 and 454 engines from 82 to 92.  After 1987 this platform received many upgrades and updates that make this a remarkably strong and confident passenger, light truck and Performance transmission. The most common transmission found today.

4L60 - Early 1990s saw the 700R4 renamed to the 4L60, and electronic models were named 4L60E. 4L60 means 4 forward speeds, L = longitudily mounted (rear wheel drive). 60 is the strength rating (less than the 4L80).

3L80 - The 3L80 is a renamed TH400, used in the early 90s. The 3L80HD would be the THM475 (heavy duty unit).

4L80 - An overdrive model of the TH400. The 4L80E would be the "electronic" model.

Transmissions with a suffix of "C" on the end of the type TH200C indicate the transmission has a lock up torque converter.

1968–1981 FMX - A hybrid of the FX and MX

1964–1981 C4 - Most small-block V8 powered cars of the 1960s and 1970s in the North American market

1989–1997 E4OD - C6 with overdrive

1998 - 4R100 - Replaces the E4OD transmission

1995–2001 4R44E - Electronically controlled A4LD, light-duty

1995–1997 4R55E - Electronically controlled A4LD, heavy-duty

1997–Current 5R44/5R55 Series - 5-speed based on the 4R44E/4R55E, Bordeaux Transmission

2004-present 5R110W - 5-speed automatic with Tow/Haul mode
  • Replaces 4R100 in Super Duty trucks

AOD - Ford's first 4-speed automatic transmission, based on the FMX but with a torque-splitting feature.

AOD-E - Electronic AOD

AOD-EW/4R70W - Strengthened AOD-E with lower 1st and 2nd gear ratios

The C6 was replaced by the E4OD which was modified to include a fourth forward speed and electronic shift controls, replacing the hydraulic control mechanism of the C6. It was built by Jasper Motors and Transmissions.
